The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) is the
nation’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving care for
sarcoidosis patients and to finding a cure for this disease. Since
establishment in 2000, FSR has worked diligently to provide resources to
thousands of patients, their families and their physicians as well as
funded several domestic and international research efforts.
New Look (and Address) for the New Millennium
In order to grow and to fulfill our mission, the Foundation is
committed to keeping our operating expenses as low as possible so that
we are able to keep pace with our progress to date. In that
regard, we are pleased to have found a supportive corporate partner in
downtown Chicago willing to make room in their headquarters for the
Foundation. As of September 2006, the landmark neo-classical
Peoples Gas Building, designed by famed architect and urban planner
Daniel Burnham is home to FSR. In addition to a high profile
Michigan Avenue address overlooking Chicago's Millennium Park, this
arrangement will allow the Foundation to save much needed money as we
grow our staff.
As more consumers use the Internet to gain access to
disease information, and more professionals use the Internet to
investigate research opportunities there is a greater need for accurate,
up-to-date and easily accessible information on-line. In October 2006,
FSR launched a redesigned Web site that features a more user-friendly
format and increases the information available to consumers and
professionals.
Improving Care for Sarcoidosis Patients
FSR has a long history of educating consumers and their health care
professionals as well as providing direct support to critically needed
research. FSR's annual K.I.S.S. (Kick In to Stop
Sarcoidosis®)Awareness Campaign reaches hundreds of thousands with a combination of
education events, print articles, televised health reports and Public
Service Announcements.
Finding a Cure
The FSR Board of Directors feels strongly that the causes of this
disease, and ultimately a cure, will be uncovered through rigorous and
extensive scientific research. FSR's Research Grants Program is the
nation's first privately funded program for sarcoidosis research.
Since 2005, the Foundation has made great strides in raising awareness of and
research support for this devastating disease, including the
establishment of six new research partnerships. In the last five years
alone, we have directed more than $750,000 towards sarcoidosis specific
research.
New Directions
It is vital that FSR maintain a high level of support for sarcoidosis
patients and expand the kind and availability of services we provide. In
the coming months, this would include plans for new patient and
professional education initiatives as well as plans to continue efforts
to fund research to find better treatments and someday a cure for this
devastating disease. FSR is a non-profit 501c3 organization. Donations
to FSR are tax-deductible. Donate Now! |
