The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR), the FSR International Coalition to Stop Sarcoidosis, and the FSR Support Group Advisory Council invite you to partner with us to declare April, 2011 Sarcoidosis Awareness Month to focus attention on sarcoidosis and the need for research and to raise the visibility of your work to support individuals diagnosed with the disease.

April 9 Alabama Greater North Alabama Sarcoidosis Support Group in Huntsville hosts the Search for a Cure Rummage Sale & Silent Auction at the Huntsville Jaycee Building. Look for the billboard advertising the event.
April 9 Michigan The Beaumont Sarcoidosis Support Group in Detroit will host a special Support Group meeting featuring Dr. Joel Seidman, pulmonologist at Beaumont Hospital and a patient panel.

April 9 Virginia The Tri-Cities Sarcoidosis Support Group will distribute flyers in Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Suffolk today, April 13 and April 18
April 9 Tennessee In Memphis, TN, a group is holding an educational meeting at the Public Library from 3:00 to 5:00PM featuring a section a presentation by Dr. Bell and viewing of a section of the FSR 2010 Patient Conference DVD.
April 10 Pennsylvania The FUNtabulous Philly Pursuit fundraiser to benefit FSR with Dr. Milton Rossman from the University of Pennsylvania and FSR Board Member as guest speaker has been organized as their “Passion Project” by four students in the Strategic Leadership Class at St. Joseph’s University. Two of the students have family members who have been affected by sarcoidosis. To register, Click Here.
April 10 Pennsylvania A conference titled Autoimmune Disease: "What a Pain" will be held from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Autoimmune Resource Center, 615 Jefferson Street, Scranton.  Registration begins at 11:00 a.m.

April 13 Michigan The Wright Sarcoidosis Support Group of Pontiac is hosting a creative photo contest.  Contestants will take a photo of themselves dressed in purple and white and vie for individual and group prizes for the most creative submissions.
April 14 Illinois Members of Illinois Support Groups will visit their legislators at the state capitol as a part of Illinois State Lung Health Education Day organized by Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago. For more information, Click Here
April 16 Illinois The Let's Breathe Sarcoidosis Support Group of Lake County meeting with Jan Lugibihl, FSR Education Manager as speaker.
April 20 Michigan The Wright Sarcoidosis Support Group of Pontiac will hold its 2nd Annual Sarcoidosis Awareness Event at the Pontiac Public Library from 7:00-8:00 p.m. The candelight ceremony will feature Dr. Robert Phillips.
April 20 West Virginia The Sarcoidosis Foundation of West Virginia will host an informational booth at West Virginia State University.
April 21 California REACH—Sarcoidosis Network Foundation, Artesia, CA will hold a special support group meeting. For more information about this, contact Ruth Jacobs.
April 23 Florida Janine’s Sarcoidosis Outreach Foundation (JSOF) in Tampa, FL will host a Sarcoidosis Awareness Rally/Walk for A Cure at the Hunt Center, Al Lopez Park with special guest speakerJe’Niece McCullough, daughter of the late Comedian/Actor Bernie Mac, and Vice President of the Bernie Mac Foundation for Sarcoidosis. April 23 Indiana The Central Indiana Sarcoidosis Support Group will host an Awareness Forum featuring Gary Martin, author of One Step Away; Dr. Karen Wolf; and a patient panel from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Washington Park North Family Center. For more information, go to www.indysarcoid.org 
April 29 Louisiana The Sarcoidosis Awareness Support Group of Greater Baton Rouge will hold "Stepping Out Against Sarcoidosis", a five hour fundraising event including an educational segment, dinner, and a night of dancing.
April 29 West Virginia The Sarcoidosis Foundation of West Virginia will host a seminar in Charleston.
April 29 Virginia The Tri-Cities Sarcoidosis Support Group will collect food donations during the month and present them on this day to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.
April 30 Louisiana The Sarcoidosis Awareness Support Group of Greater Baton Rouge will hold a health fair.
April 30 Tennessee The West TN Sarcoidosis Support Group will hold a Walk-a-Thon.

Additional Activities

Throughout the month, groups and individuals will participate in other educational and awareness activities, including:

Alabama Two Alabama groups have put up billboards with awareness raising messages.
Alabama The Greater North Alabama group is planning presentations at local community organizations and has organized the "Purple Ribbon Brigade" to make and hand out ribbons wherever possible to raise awareness.
California REACH—Sarcoidosis Network Foundation in California will pass out awareness raising information in local malls, hospitals and libraries.
California A Song for Life Foundation, based in Burbank, California, will hold two teleconferences and display its Faces of Sarcoidosis Awareness collage banner. For more information, Click Here.
Louisiana, Texas and Tennessee Media interviews with patients and Support Group Leaders.
West Virginia The Sarcoidosis Foundation of WV, Inc. in Charleston, WV will hand out purple ribbons and educational materials along with registration forms for its September Walk/Run and distribute sarcoidosis information packets to legislators.

Proclamations Declare:
APRIL SARCOIDOSIS AWARENESS MONTH

Groups and individuals around the country have asked their elected officials to declare April Sarcoidosis Awareness Month. If you would like to get a head start on next year and approach your city, county and/or state about declaring April, 2012 Sarcoidosis Awareness Month, please refer to the Tips For Obtaining A Government Proclamation section of the Sarcoidosis Awareness Month Tool Kit developed by the FSR Sarcoidosis Support Group Advisory Council.
